Beyond the Rift
Buffy - Buffy Summers, Vampire Slayer. She’s tiny and blonde, perky and girly, and she’s Tay’s best friend (and secret love interest).
Daine - 15-year-old wildmage, who can talk to animals and shapeshift (though she doesn’t do that much in Chicago). She’s friends with Shilo Wallace, and will sometimes wander through engrossed in conversation with a small animal.
The Doctor - 903-year-old Time Lord (according to him - he’s really closer to 2,000). Has a habit of poking at things and getting in trouble.
Donna - Former human, now a Time Lady, thanks to the Rift. Is fiery, independent, and probably the only person who will smack the Doctor as much as he needs. Self-appointed babysitter for the Doctor.
Dusty - Brand new Angel. A Children’s Angel, to be precise, which means that normal people over the age of about eight can’t see her. She likes to play the cello, and is very good at it.
Martha - The Doctor’s girlfriend, former medical student (though we just say she’s a doctor anyway - trust me, she’s earned it), and the least likely to be surprised by anything the Doctor does.
Rose - A former girlfriend companion of the Doctor’s, while she still adores the crazy Time Lord, she’s more likely to be gushing about her boyfriend John Smith these days. She spends her time hanging out with Martha and Donna, for the most part.
Tay - Contrary to what her first appearance in the strip would have you believe, Tay is tough-as-nails. A Guardian Angel who was raised by archangels, she’s a capable fighter, and is not used to being a “normal teenager”. She also has a huge (secret) crush on Buffy.
TOPH & Some Other People
Toph - The titular character of this part of the strip, Toph Bei Fong is a blind 12-year-old earthbender. She is the greatest earthbender in her world, despite her age and apparent disability. She sees with her feet, using her earthbending to sense vibrations. She’s far from feminine, and has a bit of a temper. She really doesn’t like to be coddled.
Owen - Owen is pretty much a rat bastard, who Toph delights in hitting with rocks. He also bears a slight resemblance to a frog.
Adventures in the “Real World” ™
Aubrey - Aubrey is based on one of the creator’s girlfriends. She is snarky and sarcastic, and tends to be the person who is not impressed by anything. She’s your clichéd “moody writer”, and is much less fanciful than her counterparts, B and Jackie. She’s the youngest of the Terrible Trio, though she doesn’t seem like it. In Beyond the Rift, she plays The Doctor and Buffy.
B - B is based on the creator. She’s a bit flighty, a bit hyperactive, and very silly. She loves her pink computer, and her hair colour changes on a regular basis. While she is a writer, she tends to be better at planning stories than actually writing them. She is very happily queer, and is in a threesome relationship with Aubrey and Jackie. In Beyond the Rift, she plays Toph, Donna, Daine, Rose, and Tay.
Jackie - The third of the Terrible Trio, Jackie is based on the creator’s other girlfriend. Jackie is the oldest of the three, and is very spiritual. She can be just as moody as Aubrey and just as hyperactive as B, depending on her mood. She always wears black (ZOMG SO GOFF), and is happy in her new relationship with Aubrey and B.
